1. Describe the service before naming a resin
Prepare a service statement with the person responsible for the installation. Separate routine conditions from cleaning, shutdowns and occasional spills. Identify unknowns explicitly and give each one a reviewer. A location description such as outdoor wastewater plant is useful context, but it cannot stand in for the actual contact conditions. Include both exposed faces and any enclosed surfaces that may encounter the medium.
| Input | What the buyer should record | Supplier response to request |
|---|---|---|
| Chemical contact | Chemical identity, concentration or range, mixtures and cleaning agents | Assessment for the named formulation and stated medium |
| Temperature | Normal range and exceptional conditions, with duration | Applicable evidence and exclusions for that exposure |
| Exposure pattern | Immersion, splash, vapor or intermittent contact; expected duration | Whether the proposed evidence covers that contact pattern |
| Loads | Sustained and occasional loads, supports and design review owner | Material data applicable to the section and service conditions |
| UV and weather | Outdoor location, sunlight exposure and appearance expectations | Specified surface system and supporting weathering evidence |
| Fire and electrical requirements | Project test methods, acceptance criteria and use conditions | Reports identifying the tested construction and their scope |
2. Compare polyester and vinyl ester as defined proposals
For a polyester vs vinyl ester FRP comparison, ask each bidder to identify its proposed formulation before comparing price. The Zhongsheng rectangular-tube catalogue lists isophthalic polyester, vinyl ester and polyurethane options. That listing establishes possible enquiry routes, not equal availability across every product family or approval for your environment.
| Proposal | Question to resolve before selection |
|---|---|
| Isophthalic polyester | Which documented formulation is offered, and what supports its use under the stated exposure? |
| Vinyl ester | Which formulation is offered, and what evidence supports any claimed advantage for this service? |
| Alternative material system | What changes in construction, qualification, price or delivery need separate approval? |
Keep geometry, reinforcement, finish and requested evidence consistent when comparing the two offers. If a bidder changes several of these together, request an itemized explanation. A higher price or a different family name does not answer the acceptance question. Record a decision against the project conditions, including any unresolved limitation that prevents release.
Buying injection equipment requires a separate formulation, metering-duty and line-interface review; finished-profile material approval does not specify the machine. Review Huafan YH-2700 for a polyurethane production project
3. Check what a chemical compatibility chart actually covers
Strongwell explains that temperature affects corrosion resistance and that its ratings concern its own proprietary resin and reinforcement systems. Its chart is not a transferable FRP chemical resistance rating for another manufacturer's product. Use a chart to identify questions for the offered construction, rather than copying a favorable entry into the purchase specification.
- Record the chart issuer, document revision and exact material designation; retain the relevant page with its legend and footnotes.
- Match the chemical identity, concentration, temperature and exposure conditions to the service statement. Mark mismatches and missing conditions.
- Ask the supplier to explain symbols, restrictions and the basis of the recommendation. A blank entry leaves an open question.
- Request written review of mixtures or conditions outside the published scope. Agree whether further evidence or project testing is needed before acceptance.
For example, a quotation supported only by an entry for one named chemical leaves the buyer's cleaning mixture unresolved. Keep that gap visible in the technical review. Do not turn an incomplete match into a temperature limit or a service-life commitment.
4. Specify reinforcement, surface and UV requirements too
Strongwell's reference describes resin and reinforcement as contributors to product properties. For procurement, request a construction description identifying the proposed reinforcement and surface system. Ask whether a surface veil, coating or other finish is included, and what evidence applies to the offered combination. Record color separately from material identity; a color sample does not identify the internal construction.
For outdoor profiles, distinguish appearance expectations from functional requirements and request evidence for each required outcome. Include cut ends, drilled holes and supplier-applied finishing in the review scope. Fire or electrical reports should identify the tested product construction and conditions. Ask the project reviewer to resolve differences between that specimen and the quoted profile before accepting the report.
5. Turn the recommendation into controlled supply evidence
Ask the supplier to return a material proposal linked to the service-statement revision. It should identify the formulation or controlled material designation, reinforcement, finish, supporting documents and exclusions. Assign technical acceptance to the project reviewer and commercial acceptance to purchasing. Where proprietary details cannot be disclosed, agree enough identification to control repeat orders and trace changes.
Resolve unsupported requirements before production release. Record whether approval depends on a sample, a relevant test report or another agreed qualification step. Require written review before substitutions to the accepted material or surface system. At delivery, reconcile lot identification and agreed conformity records with the approved proposal; these records should reference the same order line and revision.
6. Carry the material decision into the product RFQ
Attach the service statement and evidence register to the existing product order schedule. Use a separate line item when the same section needs a different material or finish. Identify pending technical decisions so a preliminary quotation is not mistaken for a released specification. Keep dimensions, quantities, delivery scope and material acceptance together when reviewing the final offer.

Questions buyers ask
- Is vinyl ester always the right choice for chemical exposure?
- The resin family alone is insufficient. Request a documented proposal for the actual chemical, concentration, temperature and exposure pattern, then review its applicability to the offered profile.
- Can another manufacturer's compatibility chart approve my order?
- It can inform questions, but it does not qualify the ordered construction. Obtain evidence and written confirmation applicable to the supplier's proposed material system.
- What if the resin has not been selected yet?
- Send the service statement with the RFQ and request a material proposal. Identify the reviewer and evidence needed to approve it before production release.
