FRP size chart in inches

Fiberglass round and square tubes, rectangular tubes, solid and threaded rods, square bars, flat strips, angles, channels and I-beams, listed the way North American drawings call them: fractional inches first, then the decimal and millimetre equivalents, a calculated weight per foot and whether the die already exists.

How to read the charts

True inch sections, all on dies we already have

Every size in these charts runs on a die already in our factory's die stock and is pultruded as a true inch section, not converted from the nearest metric size, so no tooling charge applies. A size not listed needs a die made and trialed first, quoted as a separate tooling line. Cut lengths, tolerances and the minimum run are stated in the quotation.

Calculated weight uses 1.9 g/cm³ (0.0686 lb/in³), the mid-point of the 1.8–2.0 g/cm³ density our factory states for its pultruded profiles, applied to the nominal section with square corners. Actual weight varies with glass content, resin, surface veil and corner radii, by roughly ±5 %. Use it for freight and handling estimates, not as an acceptance criterion.

  • In the 1/8 in wall series the bore of each tube equals the outside diameter of the next size down, from 1/4 in up to 3 in, so the sizes nest for telescoping poles and sleeved joints. Nominal sizes are line-to-line: state the sliding clearance or a press fit on the drawing and we size the bore tolerance to it.
  • “Sleeves inside” names the tube in this chart whose bore equals the outside diameter, across both wall series. A 1/4 in wall tube sleeves inside the 1/8 in wall tube one size up, which gives a doubled wall at a joint or a stiffer base section.

Ordering

What to send with an inch-size enquiry

  • Designation and units

Write the size as it appears in the chart, for example 1-1/2 × 1/8 in round tube, and say whether the drawing is in inches or millimetres.

  • Lengths and quantities

List each cut length with its quantity. Tell us if pieces must be packed in bundles of a fixed count.

  • Fit and tolerances

For sleeves, inserts and fittings, name the mating part and the clearance you need. We set the tolerances to it.

  • Resin, color and surface

Polyester, vinyl ester or polyurethane; color; and whether a surface veil is needed for outdoor or UV exposure.

  • Service conditions

Loads, chemicals, temperature and electrical duty. They decide the resin and the tests we propose.

  • Machining

Holes, slots, end caps or bonding. Show positions from a named end and face.

A size not listed here goes through the custom FRP profile route. The finished-profile RFQ checklist covers inspection and packing.

FAQ

Inch size questions

Are these sizes in stock?
No finished stock is held; every size is pultruded to order. Every listed size runs on an existing die, so the order goes straight to production planning without a tooling charge. The quotation states the minimum run, the tolerances and the lead time.
What if my size is not listed?
Send the drawing. A new die is made and trialed first and quoted as a separate tooling line; the trial samples are checked against your drawing before the production run.
Is threaded rod available?
Yes, 3/8-16 to 1-8 UNC all-thread is made from our pultruded round rod with the thread formed afterwards. Give the design load and torque, because fiberglass threads carry much less load than steel threads of the same size.
Can I order a metric size instead?
Yes. Send the size in millimetres. Do not substitute a 25 mm tube for a 1 in tube where parts must fit together: a 0.4 mm difference on the diameter is enough to stop a sleeve sliding or leave it loose.
Will two tubes from the 1/8 in wall series telescope?
Nominally the bore of each tube equals the outside diameter of the next size down, so the sizes nest line to line. For a sliding fit, put the clearance on the drawing; we set the bore and outside diameter tolerances to it and check the fit on samples.
How accurate are the lb/ft weights?
They are calculated from the nominal section at 1.9 g/cm³ and ignore corner radii, so expect roughly ±5 % on delivered pieces. Use them for freight and handling estimates; the packing list gives the weighed figure.
What lengths can I order?
Cut to length. State lengths in feet and inches or millimetres together with the quantity for each length. The quotation confirms the longest single piece for the section and the container.

Send a cross-section drawing. Get a scoped quotation.

Every quotation names the manufacturer, the exporter of record and the warranty party, and lists what is included.
