Finished FRP product

Fiberglass I beam

A fiberglass I beam is a composite section with two flanges joined by a central web. Its overall depth and flange width describe the envelope, while web thickness, flange thickness and root geometry complete the section. FRP or GRP I-beam procurement also requires the installed span, restraints and connection details; a catalogue dimension is not a load rating.

Selection notes

  2. What controls the span?

What to resolve before selecting this product

Which dimension is the depth?

Label overall depth and flange width on the drawing. Keep web and flange thickness separate even when a catalogue uses one wall value; include root radii and hole locations.

What controls the span?

Provide support positions, load locations, restraint and allowable deflection. Identify sustained or moving loads so the designer can request suitable material evidence and assess service behavior.

How does force enter the beam?

Show bearing lengths, support plates and bolted joints. Local bearing and connection checks need their own details; an overall bending assessment does not by itself settle these interfaces.

The listed inch dimensions are catalogue examples, not an allowable-span table. Strongwell explains that pultruded members have directional properties and that structural assessment must consider stiffness. Its EXTREN properties belong to that product system and are not adopted here. Request evidence for the offered Zhongsheng material, then have the project designer assess the actual beam and connections.

Supply workflow

From product specification to delivery

Use these stages to define responsibilities, interfaces and the evidence needed at handover.

  1. 01

    Submit geometry and design inputs

Provide the beam schedule, installation sketch and support details with environmental requirements.

  2. 02

    Review the offer

Confirm the section, material evidence and engineering responsibilities before accepting a proposed substitution.

  3. 03

    Agree production acceptance

Set dimensional checks, required reports, payment, delivery and conformity responsibility in the quotation.

Scope of supply

Define the supply package and its options

Request an itemized quotation against these lists. A catalogue description does not confirm that every item is included.

Product and work to specify

  • Finished beams to the accepted section and length schedule
  • Agreed inspection documents and shipment identification

Options and services to price separately

  • Connection plates, drilling, special cuts and assembly
  • Engineering, project tests, samples, tooling and freight

Applications

Applications to discuss with engineering

  • Frame and support members subject to project engineering review

Cross-sections

Prepare your enquiry

Send an enquiry that can be quoted

Include the drawings and requirements below so engineering can confirm the configuration, exclusions and lead time.

Include in your RFQ

  • Depth, flange width, both thicknesses and cut quantities
  • Span, restraint, loading and deflection limits
  • Bearing surfaces, joints and hole drawings
  • Service environment, finish and documentation requirements

Agree the acceptance evidence

  • Measure depth, width, web and flange thickness against the approved drawing.
  • Check straightness, cut length and holes using agreed methods.
  • Review lot traceability and contracted material evidence separately from project design approval.

FAQ

Questions buyers ask

Can I select this beam from a steel span table?
No. Use an engineering assessment based on the offered composite material, geometry and actual support conditions.
Are the example sizes available from stock?
Stock is unconfirmed. Request written availability, minimum quantity and lead time for the selected drawing and material.
