Pultrusion Die Cost: What to Compare in a Tooling Quote

Pultrusion die cost is a quotation for a defined tooling package, not a standard price per profile. Compare the controlled drawing, die construction, cavities, internal tooling, machine interfaces and trial deliverables together. A useful quote states what is included, what is separate and which assumptions could change the price.

Published by pultrx, the export partner for Henan Zhongsheng. This is a buyer planning guide; the manufacturer confirms project specifications in writing.

What are you buying with the die?

In pultrusion, the heated die forms the cross-section while the resin cures. Composites UK's process overview explains that role. The purchase may also involve guides, internal tooling, heating interfaces and a production trial. Ask for an itemized supply list instead of assuming that every accessory shown in a photograph is included.

Henan Zhongsheng's tooling catalog groups tube, rod and other profile tooling into separate families. Those listings help identify a starting point for discussion; they do not establish a current price for your drawing. This guide therefore gives a comparison method without a numerical market range. A valid price needs a dated quotation, drawing revision, agreed scope and delivery terms.

Compare the same drawing and acceptance requirement

Issue the same drawing revision to every supplier. Mark the dimensions and surfaces that matter to assembly or the end customer. Invite the toolmaker to identify difficult requirements and propose changes, but require written approval before those changes enter the design. A quote for relaxed requirements is not directly comparable with one for the original drawing.

Keep mandatory requirements separate from optional development work. For example, ask whether a revised cross-section, an additional cavity or a spare internal component changes only the tool package or also the trial and machine interfaces. Request separate option lines so the purchasing team can see what it is approving. Do not infer cost from steel weight or from the price of an unrelated die photograph.

Resolve tube, rod and structural-tooling scope

For a hollow-profile project, list the internal tooling and its supports explicitly. For a multi-cavity proposal, ask how the supplied package fits the intended machine and how acceptance samples will be identified. For a structural section, identify fit surfaces and inspection access on the drawing. These are procurement questions for the toolmaker; they do not imply that a particular cavity count or tolerance is achievable.

Include the cost of reaching acceptance

Ask the quotation to name the trial location, machine, materials, sample quantity, inspection records and approval owner. Agree who provides resin and reinforcement and what happens if a correction is needed. If a production trial is excluded, record how the tool will later be accepted on the buyer's line. Do not compare a tool delivered without a trial against a tool-and-trial package as though the scope were identical.

Keep delivery and future service visible. Ask about packing, handling instructions, replacement components and the process for assessing repair or refurbishment. A service-life statement needs conditions and a written basis; it should not be converted into a guaranteed cost per meter without evidence for your material, operating and maintenance conditions.

Release the tooling order in clear stages

  1. Submit the controlled drawing and identify the intended machine and material package.
  2. Receive the itemized tooling proposal and close exclusions or open assumptions.
  3. Approve the design documents, interfaces and trial acceptance plan.
  4. Agree payment milestones, warranty party, correction responsibilities and shipping scope.
  5. Release shipment against the agreed records and retain the approved drawing revision with the delivered tool.

Questions buyers ask

How much does a custom pultrusion die cost?
A firm price requires a drawing and defined tooling, interface and trial scope. pultrx does not publish a generic range without a dated, documented configuration. Request an itemized quotation for your profile.
Are mandrels and preformers included in the die price?
Check the written supply list. Ask the toolmaker to identify every mandrel, support, guide and spare component included or quoted separately.
How can I compare two different tooling quotations?
Align drawing revisions, acceptance requirements, supplied components, trial deliverables, warranty and shipping terms. Resolve omitted items before comparing totals.
